Insurance for beauty salons and clinics
Salons, day spas, laser clinics and cosmetic injectable practices work on people, sell what they apply and trade out of a fit-out they paid for themselves. The cover has to follow the treatment menu as closely as it follows the shopfront.
The treatment, the advice and the weeks you cannot trade
Public & Products Liability
Client injury during a treatment, and harm from the products you apply or sell over the counter. Treatment risk sits in an extension, and it reaches only the treatments on the schedule.
Public & Products Liability coverProfessional Indemnity
Claims that a consultation, a skin assessment or an aftercare instruction caused loss. It carries the weight where the treatment is clinical and the result was described in advance.
Professional Indemnity coverBusiness Interruption
A fire upstairs or water through the ceiling closes the rooms while the rent and the wages keep running. Cover for the income lost until the fit-out is back and the diary refills.
Business Interruption coverThe policy covers the treatments you declared, and no others
Salon cover is written around a treatment list. Services added through the year sit outside it until someone tells the insurer.
New treatments
Laser, IPL, skin needling and injectables are rated on their own terms. Bringing a machine in part way through the policy year leaves that room outside the cover until the schedule is updated.
Chair and room renters
A stylist renting a chair or a therapist renting a room is rarely an employee. Their work sits outside your policy unless it is written in, and their own liability cover is worth sighting every year.
The fit-out
Under many retail leases the fit-out belongs to the tenant, which generally makes it yours to insure. Basins, beds, chairs, lasers and mirrors add up well past the sum insured most salons carry.
A burn after a laser treatment
An illustrative example of how Ardent can make the difference in a time of need.
A client was burned during a laser hair removal session and claimed against the salon. The machine had been brought in part way through the policy year.
The treatment list had been updated with the insurer when the machine went in, so laser was on the schedule. We notified the claim, briefed the lawyers acting for the salon and kept the owner out of the correspondence.
The claim ran under the treatment risk extension. Legal costs and the settlement were met by the policy, and the salon kept its doors open throughout.
Responds under Public & Products Liability
This is an illustrative example. Every claim is assessed by the insurer on its own facts and under the terms of the policy.
What insurers expect to see
Salon cover is rated on the treatments, the equipment and the people performing them. We go through the menu with you each year, so anything new is inside the policy before it is offered to a client.
- Every treatment on the menu declared, including laser, IPL, skin needling and injectables
- Training records and qualifications held for each therapist performing a rated treatment
- Chair and room renters listed, with their own liability cover sighted
- Fit-out, beds, chairs and equipment insured at what they cost to replace today
- Retail stock declared, with the supplier's product liability confirmed for what you sell on
- Client records, consent forms and treatment photos sized into a cyber limit
