IT Liability Insurance
Technology businesses face exposures that standard Professional Indemnity and Public Liability policies weren't designed for. IT Liability combines PI and PL elements into a single, technology-specific product that covers the risks software developers, IT consultants and managed service providers face.
Professional and public liability, written for technology work
A release that took a customer offline in trading hours
An illustrative example of how Ardent can make the difference in a time of need.
A deployment brought down a customer's production environment during their busiest period. The customer claimed for the revenue lost while the systems were unavailable.
The policy had been written to answer financial loss from a technology failure as well as negligent advice, after we went through the client's contracts and liability caps at placement.
The customer's claim was met under the policy and the commercial relationship survived. The legal costs of the dispute were covered as well.
This is an illustrative example. Every claim is assessed by the insurer on its own facts and under the terms of the policy.

What a client says about Ardent
A thorough and extremely proficient team, compared to any past experiences, for our company PI and PL insurances. A pleasure to deal with.
With Ardent, I have full confidence in our insurance-cover, which has been challenging in the past, given our niche requirements.
IT Liability FAQ
In many cases, yes. Standard PI and PL policies often exclude or inadequately cover technology-specific exposures, particularly claims arising from software errors, system failures, data breaches caused by your technology, and cyber-related third-party losses. IT Liability is built for technology businesses and closes these gaps with definitions, wordings and limits that suit tech companies. Ardent reviews your existing policies and identifies what IT-specific gaps exist before recommending cover.
IT Liability suits software developers (SaaS, custom software, mobile apps), IT consultants and project managers, managed service providers (MSPs), cloud providers, web design and development agencies, IT infrastructure providers, data analytics firms, and any business whose main offering is technology advice or technology products. If your clients could sue you for a technology failure or data issue, IT Liability is the appropriate product.
No. The two are distinct but work together. Cyber insurance covers your own first-party losses (data recovery, ransom, your own BI) and your liability to clients whose data you hold. IT Liability covers your liability arising from technology products and services you deliver to clients, including claims that your software or systems caused their loss. IT businesses typically need both, and Ardent structures the two policies to work together, keeping gaps and double-ups to a minimum.
